WindUp

WindUp is an innovative live wind alarm application designed to notify outdoor enthusiasts the precise moment their preferred wind conditions are met at their chosen spot. Unlike traditional weather forecast apps that predict future conditions, WindUp monitors real-time data from thousands of global wind stations, ensuring you never miss an ideal session. Targeting kitesurfers, sailors, windsurfers, wing foilers, paragliders, drone pilots, and anyone whose activities depend on specific wind conditions, WindUp provides critical alerts that cut through phone settings like Do Not Disturb or Silent, guaranteeing timely notifications. Key Features: Live Wind Alarm: Rings instantly when your custom wind speed, direction, and gust thresholds are met, even on Silent or Do Not Disturb modes. 10,000+ Global Stations: Access hyper-local, real-time wind data from a vast network of professional and community stations worldwide. AI-Powered Forecasts: Get hyper-local outlooks trained on live station data, offering insights into upcoming wind patterns. Home Screen Widgets: View live wind data for your spot directly on your phone's home screen without opening the app. Live Tide Information: See tide height and next high/low times integrated into the app for comprehensive spot assessment. Explore World Map: Discover wind stations and forecast spots globally on an interactive map. Use Cases: WindUp is indispensable for anyone engaged in wind-dependent sports. Kitesurfers, windsurfers, and wing foilers can set alarms to trigger the moment the wind hits their optimal range (e.g., 15-25 kt for kitesurfing), ensuring they are on the water for the best conditions. Sailors can plan their outings based on actual, current wind data rather than relying solely on less precise forecasts. For activities like paragliding and drone piloting, precise wind conditions are crucial for safety and performance. WindUp allows users to set alarms for light winds and low gusts (e.g., 5-15 kt with low gusts), providing a critical alert for safe flight windows. Conversely, surfers, who often prefer no wind or clean offshore conditions, can configure alarms to notify them when the wind drops below a certain threshold (e.g., under 8 kt). Pricing Information: The core live wind alarm functionality, including unlimited stations, custom thresholds, and DND-piercing alerts, is completely free. WindUp also offers a "WindUp Pro" subscription at $2.99/month, which unlocks additional features like live tide information. The app is supported by partner stations and its parent studio, Virtual Verse. User Experience and Support: WindUp boasts a clean, glanceable user interface designed for ease of use. Setting an alarm is a quick two-tap process, making it incredibly efficient for users who need to get out the door fast. The app has been rebuilt for enhanced speed and a smoother experience, including a proper dark mode for dawn checks. While specific documentation or direct support channels aren't detailed, the intuitive design aims to minimize the need for extensive support. Technical Details: The application leverages iOS time-sensitive and critical alerts to ensure alarms bypass Do Not Disturb and Silent modes, a key differentiator. It aggregates real-time wind data from a network of over 10,000 professional and personal weather stations globally, providing hyper-local accuracy superior to regional forecast models. The app is available on both iOS and Android platforms. Pros and Cons: Pros: Rings through Do Not Disturb/Silent; uses real-time live data, not forecasts; extensive network of 10,000+ stations; core alarm functionality is free; includes AI-powered forecasts and live tide info; user-friendly interface with quick alarm setup; available on iOS and Android. Cons: Some advanced features (like live tides) require a paid "Pro" subscription; specific programming languages/frameworks are not disclosed; reliance on external station data means coverage might vary in extremely remote areas (though 10k+ stations is extensive). Conclusion: WindUp offers an unparalleled solution for anyone needing real-time, reliable wind alerts to optimize their outdoor activities. Its ability to cut through phone silence ensures you're always informed the moment conditions are perfect. Download WindUp today to transform how you catch your next session.
